Kenyans have continued to feel the pinch of the lockdown imposed on the country last month with majority unable to fend for their families as usual.

In his address to the nation on the measures to combat the wild third wave of Covid- 19, President Uhuru Kenyatta imposed locked down in five counties and closure of entertainment places as wells restrictions of movements past curfews hours.

His orders rendered so many people jobless with no relevant avenues to put food on their families’ tables.

While faulting the government for giving no alternatives on how the common citizen could make ends meet, majority of Kenyans, under the hashtag #UnlockOurCountry urged the government to reverse these orders.

Those who are leading the #UnlockOurCountry chorus are artists who have been locked back to their houses and can no longer perform. Taking to their different social media accounts, they have unanimously challenged the government over what they call punitive measures.

Popular singer Willy Paul on Sunday went all gloves off as he addressed President Uhuru for turning his back on Kenyans who elected him with a lot of hopes at the time. Pozze challenged the president to live to his authority and save Kenyans from the sufferings.

” Mr. President, Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta. Kenyans are suffering now more than ever. Kenyans elected you with hopes of a better life not what they’re going through now. If you’re really a President of the people then this is the time for you to show us. Show Kenyans that you’re feeling their pain, show them that you’re with them in this hard time,” Willy Paul said in a long post.

” Now that you’ve locked the country and the curfew is still alive, how do you expect Kenyans to survive Mr. President? No no no no!! I’m not buying that. Unlock our country sir.. we want to work, make money feed our families and pay our bills!! We are tired aaai! Prices going up. yaani high cost of living, at the same time we are paying loans na hatuna pesa.. please do something about it.”

While Willy Paul was on President Uhuru’s case, celebrated rapper Khaligraph Jones took on Deputy President William Ruto urging him to act on the situation that has seen Kenyans go hungry.

The O.G went ahead to promise DP Ruto a pro bono campaign in 2022 if he delivered the hustlers from the weight of the lockdown yoke.

” Hustler , najua we utasoma Hii, Ma Husler Wanaumia Kwa ground, Watu wanalala Njaa, Nyumba zinafungwa, If you help us in This Situation, I will campaign for you for free in the coming Elections, Kindly help Unlock our Country,” he wrote.

However, Khaligraph’s thoughts seemed to rub the wrong way fellow singer Otile Brown who suggested that the former was unnecessarily being easy on Ruto.

According to the Nabeyet hitmaker, the DP didn’t warrant any give and take to act on the lockdown situation.

“But why campaign for free … he’s vying next year .. kama awezi kusimama na wana nchi sahii … it’s on us to decide if we think he deserves that seat or not .. let’s open our eyes this time round or do another 10yrs of msoto.. this are the leaders to put pressure on .. tuwache kuwabembeleza, “ Otile wrote.

Police block Thika Road

There has been growing dissent on the implementation of the lockdown measures messing the operations of many Kenyans.

On Saturday night, thousands of motorists and passengers using different roads within Nairobi metropolitan areas were stranded for several hours after police erected roadblocks on the routes.

The affected roads included Thika Road, Mombasa Road, Waiyaki Way, Langata Road and Jogoo Road.

According to sources, police erected the roadblocks to trap users who had flouted the 8pm curfew orders.

“I am now on Thika Road and the police have blocked the road because it’s past curfew time. They (police) have told us we will sleep on the road until 4 am,” musician Bahati’s wife Diana Marua said in a video revealing the situation.

Crowdsourcing traffic app Ma3Route revealed that essential service vehicles like ambulances were also caught up in the madness past 12 midnight.

Data shows that Nairobi alone has a population of 4 million residents majority of whom use the different roads to and from work daily.
