Business Man Chris Kirubi is dead

Kenya’s prominent businessman Christopher John Kirubi is dead.

The news was confirmed on Monday by Capital FM, one of the companies, the businessman ran.


Kirubi who was born in 1941, was until his death a director at Centum Investment Company, a business conglomerate, where he was the largest individual shareholder.


Kirubi also owned Haco Industries Limited.

Kirubi was also a non-executive director of Bayer East Africa Limited, UAP Provincial Insurance Company Limited, and Beverage Services of Kenya Limited.

He also has shares in Kenya Commercial Bank Group and Nation Media Group.

In March 2020, he filed an application seeking regulatory approval to acquire another 20 per cent of Centum’s shareholding, to add to the 30 per cent that he already owned at that time. The deal involves the purchase of 133 million shares valued at KSh2.7 billion (US$25.7 million).

Kirubi was flown to the United States in November 2017 for four months of treatment after being diagnosed with cancer of the colon.
