There was drama at the Milimani Law Courts after presiding magistrate, Douglas Ogoti, walked out in protest following heated argument with lawyers representing ex- Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko .
The lawyers were representing Sonko in a graft case in which he is accused of stealing Sh10 million of County funds.
The lawyers cited Ogoti’s unfairness claiming that the anti- corruption magistrate was leaning towards the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) in his hearing.
They faulted the magistrate for allowing the DPP to introduce new evidence in the middle of the hearing.
They also took issue with Ogoti’s refusal to adjourn the case besides declining an application that the Governor rescues himself from the hearing .
Ogoti however claimed that the scuffle was an attempt by Sonko’s lawyers to domineer him. He insisted that the defense team did not have any evidence to show his bias.
“The applicant having been represented by able lawyers instead of filing an appeal, opted for recusal, this is a conduct meant to threaten a judicial officer,” said Douglas Ogoti.
The presiding officer was later forced to walk out of the court room in protest.
