Police have announced that it intends to honor its pledge to pay Sh60million for information that led to the arrest of the three suspects that escaped from Kamiti maximum prison last week.
National Police Spokesperson Bruno Shiosho, in a statement on Sunday evening, acknowledged that the arrest of the three was aided by locals.
adding that plans are in place to pay the deserving persons.
but Shiosho noted that thorough verification will be done to ensure the most deserving persons are given since a number of people have come out claiming they had a hand in the arrest of Mohammed Ali Abikar, Joseph Juma Odhiambo & Musharaf Abdallah Washiali aka Shukri aka Alex Shikanda
Additionally, Shioso divulged that due to the sensitive nature of the case, the police may not publicly announce the eventual recipient/recipients of the award.
“The government acknowledges that the re-arrests of the suspects was made possible with the support from members of the public… The government intends to honor its pledge on the cash reward offer. This will be, however, subject to a due verification process to ensure the reward goes to deserving persons” read the statement.
“The security nature of the incident and the risk of harm to those who genuinely aided the capture of the three high value trio may militate against a full public disclosure of the eventual beneficiaries of the cash reward,” Shioso’s statement read in part.
The Police Spokesperson also issued an update on investigations following the re-arrest of the three, noting that crucial leads have been collected and forensic investigations is currently ongoing.
