The East Africa region has today woken up to reports that one of its leaders was admitted at Kenya’s Nairobi Hospital apparently fighting COVID- 19.

The Daily Nation reported the story without mentioning the name of the leader who it says is on a ventilator at the facility. However, the publication mentions that the leader was last seen in public two weeks ago while launching a mega project.

It further discusses the non- interventional attitude that Tanzania had taken to handle the coronavirus pandemic.

Well, Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta was seen in public as late as Tuesday, March 10 when he chaired a virtual meeting of the African Union Peace and Security Council on climate change.

Uganda’s Yoweri Museveni was seen in public two days ago when he led the celebrations of Women’s Day while Rwanda’s Paul Kagame was live early this week holding meetings with delegations that received the COVID- 19 vaccines in the country.

The only leader from the region who has been absent from the public eye is Tanzania’s President John Pombe Magufuli.

His unknown whereabouts was first questioned by the country’s opposition leader Tundu Lissu.

” The President’s well-being is a matter of grave public concern. We’re informed when Kikwete had prostate surgery. We’re told when Mkapa went for hip replacement. We’re not kept in the dark when Mwalimu fought leukemia. What’s it with Magufuli that we don’t deserve to know?” Tundu wrote on Twitter.

Tundu further retweeted the story by Nation insinuating that it is Magufuli who had been hospitalized.

Magufuli has been so skeptical with COVID- 19 and had resorted to natural remedies and prayers to fight the virus. At some point, he declared his country COVID- 19 free.
