Mashemeji derby it is! this is after Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards both reached the FKF Betway cup final set for July 4th. Ingwe edged out minnows Division two side Equity FC through spot-kicks.
John Oyemba was the hero of the day after he ensured Leopards reached the finals by saving Stephen Ologi’s penalty kick. Both teams were tied at 4-4 after each missed in the opening five penalty kicks before Oyemba saved Equity’s seventh take after Ingwe converted their sixth and seventh kick.
The penalty kicks were occasioned by the 0-0 result at the regular time.
While Kogalo’s Gad Mathews waS as well the hero after saving one penalty before his teammates converted all their 4 penalties. 4 of Gor Mahia’s penalties were scored by, Alpha Onyango, Jonh Macharia, Clifton Miheso, and the winning penalty was scored by winger Sammy Onyango.
David Orem, who has had a good run in this competition, couldn’t show his prowess in the penalty shootout after missing his penalty. He had scored an equalizer to ensure the game ended in a 1-1 in regular time
Ingwe who last won the title in 2017 when they beat Kariobangi Sharks 2-0 to win the then GOtv Shield, is now one match away from winning their 11th title. On the other side, Gor has won the title 8 times last being 2012.
The last time the two arch-rivals met in the FKF cup finals was 2013 where Leopard won 1-0 against.
