The pangs of Njaanuary are already menacing and causing havoc. And it is not funny
A police officer from Koromotangi village in Kakamega County committed suicide over what has ostensibly been reported as frustrations over delayed salary.
Reports indicate that the officer identified as Abel Kemboi was on Wednesday, January 5, found dead after complaining to friends and relatives that his December salary had been delayed.
The officer had vowed to confront his bosses at the Kakamega station over the highlighted grievances and even requested his cousin identified as Zacheaus Kalama to accompany him.
“We had agreed to go to the station to inquire the cause of the salary delay from his bosses but it was shocking that he took his own life even before we achieved our mission,” Kalama said.
Kalama said that he woke up the following morning and headed to Abel’s home but found the door locked from inside.
Efforts to ask him to open the door were futile, prompting Kalama to break into the house and that’s when he found Abel lifeless. He had committed suicide.
“He had hanged himself and I did not believe what I saw,” Kalama said revealing that his cousin had however shown signs of being stressed in the recent past.
The demised boss, Kakamega Central OCPD David Kabena admitted that the late was always stressed.
“It is important for those who realize that they are stressed to reach out and share what they are going through,” Kabena said.
