Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy was denied bail and will remain in the hands of the police as he awaits trial on sexual assault and rape.
According to British media reports, Mendy was taken into remand last Friday after he was charged with one count of sexual assault and four counts of rape by a Chester Magistrate’s Court.
According to his lawyer, the French international has already denied the allegations despite not taking a formal plea.
According to Cheshire Constabulary, the 27-year-old, who has since been suspended by the English Premier League defending champions, allegedly committed the crimes between October 2020 and August 2021.
City signed the player from Monaco in 2017 for Sh7.9 billion. He has since won three league titles with the club.
