Olympic Marathon Champion Peres Jepchirchir gifted her uncle with a beautiful house for taking care of her since she was 2 years.
In pictures that were shared on social media, Perez said that the house was a token of appreciation to his uncle who supported her and took good care of her.
Jepchirchir parents passed away while she was 2 years leaving behind 24 kids, and they would go without food.
“We are 24 siblings and that is why I decided to work hard because we had very minimal resources at home. Life was not that easy. Small scale farming was the only source of income for our family,” She told one of the local tv stations.
She dropped out of Kosirai Girls High School in Nandi County due to lack of food and decided to concentrate on athletics
Her highest-profile appearance was at the London Marathon but she didn’t make it.
In 2020, She set a new record after she won the women-only half marathon after running a time of one hour five minutes 34 seconds in Prague breaking off Ethiopia’s Netsanet Gudeta in 2018.
She covered the first 10 kilometres of the 16-and-a-half-lap Letna Park course in 30:32.
“I was thinking to run maybe 1:04:50, but I’m so happy,” she said.
