Safaricom users will, from Wednesday, enjoy a free 20 minutes call in a promotion that runs for 30 days as the telecommunication giant celebrates 20 years since it started its operations in the country.
According to Safaricom CEO Peter Ndengwa, customers who have been with the company for the past 20 years, as well as those turning 20 this year, will benefit from free 20GB data.
“Each customer will receive a notification a day before to alert them of their free call. Customers who have been on the Safaricom network for 20 years, as well as customers turning 20 this year, will also receive a free 20GB data bundle valid for seven days,” Ndegwa said in a statement sent to the press.
The promotion dubbed 20@20 will also see subscribers qualify for 20 minutes of call time and 20MBs at Sh20.
On October 23, 2000, the company was launched with only five employees sitting in a two bedroomed house along Nairobi’s Kijabe street.
It has since grown to become the leading telco in the country, with 65% of the market share under its grip.
