Tirop’s Husband To Be Detained For Another 20 Days

Ibrahim Rotich Kemboi, the main suspect in the murder of the late athletics champion Agnes Tirop, who conquered the 2015 Cross Country competition, has been detained for 20 more days.


Rotich who was arrested on Wednesday, October 13th 2021 In Changamwe Mombasa was on Monday 18th October 2021 presented before Senior Principal Magistrate Charles Kutwa in Iten Elgeyo Marakwet County.

“The prime suspect in the gruesome murder of 25-year-old world 5,000m record holder Agnes Tirop, has been arrested. Ibrahim Rotich, who was in a relationship with the athlete was arrested moments ago in Changamwe, Mombasa county, as he tried to flee to a neighbouring country to evade justice. DCI said.

“Rotich is believed to have killed the two-time World Athletics championships bronze medallist, by stabbing her before going into hiding,

The request by the State Prosecutor Judith Ayuma to detain the suspect for 20 more days was granted as the third suspect John Kipkoech Samoei in connection with the death of the athlete was arrested on Sunday 17th October 2021.

The courts also granted the prosecutor to hold the suspect at the Eldoret Police Station and further directed that he be taken to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) for mental assessment.

Tirop’s body was found with stab wounds in their Iten home on Wednesday 13th October 2021.
