When Comedian Eric Omondi was hosted on Bonga na Jalas, he hinted that what people find to be controversial is actually him trying to start conversations around pertinent issues
Maybe that was his intention when a few weeks ago, he claimed that the local music industry in Kenya ‘is dead’ and is akin to the cemetery.
“Our musicians have become mere curtain raisers for international acts. We have become clowns in our own land. Every weekend there is a group of 3 or 4 foreign artists in Nairobi. “It is utter disgrace,” he argued.
His assertions were met by raging mad artists and fans but Omondi in his characteristic self refused to renegade on his claims
“Where are the Kenyan concerts? The curfew has been lifted, it is time to dust ourselves and get to work. We can do it, we have all it takes to RECLAIM this lost
And when Jamaican dancehall artist Konshens confirmed his show for 31st, Omondi was at it again.
HONESTLY are we doing this BADLY😥😥😥😥😥😥😥😥 Is the State of our MUSIC Industry REEEEALY THIS BAD???????? I really have nothing against International ARTISTS my HEART is PROFUSELY BLEEDING for our INDUSTRY. You HONESTLY want to tell me that a @khaligraph_jones @otilebrown @realshinski CONCERT cannot pull Crowds on the LAST DAY of the YEAR😥😥😥😥. I have no PROBLEM with Konshens. My Issue is our own MESSAGING!!! We are and have been KILLING OUR OWN!!! It’s all in the MESSAGING PEOPLE, MESSAGING is everything. SO next week KENYAN ARTISTS will be UNVEILED as CURTAIN RAISERS😥😥😥😥😥😥
Having had enough, Konshens responded, aking Omondi what exactly is stirring so much angst from him
“Nobody is trying to milk your country, your country just has a crazy love for all genres of music and a respect for artistry that’s why artists love it there, I had 4 offers for Dec 31st all waaaaay closer to my home and less of a hassle but I chose KENYA because of the vibe and energy there and I’m sure I can speak for other artistes to say nobody is broke at home waiting for Kenya to call lol, we just love your country and your people and they love us back. “
My brother @konshens because you are a very SMART and CLASSY guy I will tell you the TRUTH about my ISSUE. HERE IS THE TRUTH BRO!!! You JAMAICANS, TANZANIANS and NIGERIANS have TOTALLY and COMPLETELY OVERPOWERED our ARTISTS. I dont blame you, NOT AT ALL. Our Artists are LAZY, REDUNDANT, DORMANT and lack the SPIRIT and WILL to PUSH or even DO MORE or BETTER!!! Our LOCAL MUSIC Industry is DEAD, BURRIED and ROTTING!!! The Thing is we are TRYING to REVIVE it and in Order to do that I feel PROMOTERS OUGHT to SUPPORT Our AGENDA by PUSHING OUR ARTISTS as well. The BIG SHOWS happening in Kenya in November and December include YOURSELF, CHARLY BLACK, NSG, KRANIUM,KOFFI OLOMIDE,, HARMONIZE, MBOSSO, And am told CECIL is also on her Way. My BROTHER you guys ARE KILLING US 😥😥😥😥. OUR MUSICIANS are WEAK and SICKLY. I feel like we need a little SPACE to RECOVER, REJUVENATE and the PROMOTERS are not doing Anything to HELP!!! I have personally tabled a motion in our PARLIAMENT to Ensure we PLAY 75% Local because BRO OUR RADIO and TV Stations ONLY PLAY FOREIGN MUSIC🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️😥😥😥. I totally have NOTHING against International ARTISTS I am just trying to put our HOUSE in ORDER.
